Understanding Personality - 1579 Words

Introduction This essay is a concise guide to the understanding of personality in terms of Theories, structure and testing, looking at Trait, situation and interactional theories in particular. Every individual has a unique personality, which is known as their psychological makeup. This is known as the relatively stable, psychological structures that shape a person’s actions in a specific environment. (Gill, 1986) This essay will look at the established theoretical psychological understand of personalities. Where did sports psychology begin? Sport psychology began in the 1890s thanks to the psychologist Norman Triplett, who was a keen cyclist, he asked the question, â€Å"Why do cyclists sometimes ride faster when they race in groups or pairs†¦show more content†¦This first part looks into how these two conflict with the superego which can be placed a part of the conscious personality. The second part focuses on the person as a whole instead of labelling individual traits. This approach is very complex and is constantly adapting to the changes of confliction. (Weinberg Gould, 2011) The Trait Approach suggests there are units of personality which have traits. In this approach psychologists believe that the causes of behaviour originate within a person and that environmental and situational factors are minimal in the outcome of an event. (Weinberg Gould, 2011) This assumes that once we have identified a specific trait, that we can then predict certain behaviour in a given situation. (Gill, 1986) This theory does not mean that an aggressive athlete will be aggressive in every competition; it just means that the athlete is likely to be aggressive. (Weinberg Gould, 2011) Nearly all psychologists behind these theories agree on the â€Å"big five† model with its 5 labels of Personality traits/characteristics. These include Extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, neuroticism and conscientiousness. (Gill, 1986) â€Å"I have learned that much of our research on traits is over weighted with methodological preoccupation; and that we have too few rest raints holding us to the structure of life as it is lived.† (Allport, 1966, p. 8) The situational approach suggests that behaviour is due to the situation and environment.Show MoreRelatedPersonality As An Understanding Of Personality994 Words   |  4 PagesAs an understanding of personality, it is said that the essential paradigms of a personality are defined by individual’s characteristics and behaviour. Ubiquitous Access Resources Such Servers â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Ubiquitous Access Resources Such Servers? Answer: Introducation Cloud computing is a computing software and infrastructure model which is used in enabling ubiquitous access to resources such as servers, applications, storage and networks which have been configured and can be allocated and managed with minimal effort through the use of the internet (Hamdaqa, 2012). A hybrid cloud is a term used in cloud computing to refer to a cloud computing environment that utilizes a combination of private cloud, on premises infrastructure and third party cloud services which work together to bring about the whole cloud computing solution to a company. Cloud computing is in some aspects referred to as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) because it provides computing resources over the internet which are virtually available. Webbs is a company which is trying to use cloud computing to optimize its operations and save on some of its operational costs. They want to migrate their MS SQL Server 2012 R2 database to an IaaS instance. The types of security they can deploy to protect data through migration to a public cloud are data in motion encryption such as using a virtual private network (VPN) or a secured socket layer (SSL). An SSL is a security technology which is standardized and used in establishing a link which is encrypted between a web browser and a server. The benefits of that would result from this deployment is that the data of the company will be safely secured and will not be easily accessible to outside individuals. The data will also be easily accessible from anywhere which allows a lot of portability to the employees of the company. The issues that would arise would be that their data will be at risk to a new breed of people such as hackers who can try and attain this data for personal, professional or financial gain. The risks associated with migrating the mission critical database to the cloud are that the database can be compromised because all the data from the database will be migrated to the cloud and during this migration data can be tapped by an unwanted party which can lead to there being a serious security problem in the company. The IaaS structure can pose various risks such as being too slow to effectively serve the company as data is being migrated. It can also have low or unsubstantial security measures which may put the company data at risk of being breached or accessed by unwanted parties. Communication between Webbs and their IaaS happens over the internet which means that the link can be breached through an instance such as a man in the middle attack (Kostantos K. et al., 2013). The risks and issues associated with backing up data to the cloud are that data can by accessed by unauthorized users. Data also takes a lot of time to be uploaded to the cloud which can cause a lot of lagging in the operations in which the company undertakes. There are also risks to restoring or retrieving data back from the cloud because this process needs to be a fast task and may take a lot of time due to the huge volumes of data which are needed for use by the company. Storing data in the cloud is critical because this data is sensitive and needs to be secured. It is therefore a key requirement for storing of data to the cloud to be very secure and organized. When the cloud is built and organized well it ensures that we the company can access data efficiently reducing any issues of data redundancy or coherency which are usually present in a poorly designed database (Qusay, 2011). Webbs use of the cloud backup affects their DR plans in that they will now have to change their strategy. Data recovery involves saving data or backing it up somewhere such as a cloud then later retrieving this data in case maybe the system is compromised. Webbs DR plans were internal but now they use the cloud which means their data is passed over the internet and can be accessible by unauthorized users if it is not protected. Webbs needs to ensure that in backing up and retrieving their data they utilize data in motion encryption techniques to secure their data. They did not need to consider such measures before because data recovery was handled using in-house infrastructure but now they will need to use the Iaas infrastructure. Webbs can protect their Iaas infrastructure by using multi-factor authentication when accessing this infrastructure. This will ensure that authentication to access the infrastructure is more secure so that it is hard for any unauthorized users to access the infrastructure. Administrative access can be limited to only a few users to ensure vulnerability is limited because there are only a few users who have administrative access (Von Laszewski et al., 2012). These protection measures can be replicated to their Ms SQL Server 2012 R2 cloud instance. Their cloud network, backup and restore infrastructure can be protected by using data in motion encryption and firewalls to ensure they are secure from threats and any data they are passing over the internet is secured and encrypted. MacDonald’s parents decided that he should become a lawyer after his completion of schooling. It was a great choice for a boy who seemed to really admire studying and beside that he had an urgent to start earning cash in order to support his family since his fathers business ventures were failing. As compared to Macdonald Lauriers’ father was well up and by the age of eleven he was sent to study in new Glasgow. Macdonald had a rather sorrowful and tragedous private life. When Sir Macdonald first came into office he was faced with major opposition. Nova Scotia was already threatening to withdraw from the confederation; the Anglo-American relationships were in a poor state. In 1867 the first general elections were held and this is where MacDonald had his first major achievement. He was able to bring together Nova Scotia New Brunswick and the province of lower and Upper Canada to form the state of Canada of which guaranteed him election stress free. MacDonald’s main vision was to enlarge the country and bring it together in unity. Under his rule he rought British Colombia, PIE, and great North West territories into Canada all this for ? 300,000 (about $11,500,000 in modern Canadian dollars). Macdonald’s still biggest achievement as a prime minister was the building of the Trans continental railway which was completed in 1891 (Leonardo 219). He also managed to create a god relationship with the United States rising to the challenge of the Northwest rebellion and his balancing of French and English interests in accept able terms for most. Sir Wilfrid Laurier is known to have had a number of accomplishments as a prime minister. To begin with he was able to establish the department of labour and external affairs, he also managed to recruit immigrants into the west, and in 1905 he oversaw the creation of two provinces Alberta and Saskatchewan into the confederation which saw the creation of the last two provinces in the Northwest Territories (Picknett, Prince, Prior Brydon 290). He also saw the beginning of the two new transcontinental railways although the project was filled with scandals. He also made a deal with the united state for lower rates on natural products. The two prime ministers are to date considered being the greatest of all time. This Great statesmen had a couple of similarities if we scrutinses them properly. One similarity was that both of them were students of law. MacDonald studied law in Toronto where he traveled by boat whereas sir Wilfrid studied law in New Glasgow. These two men had a vision of the expansion of the country of Canada since both of them contributed to the increase of the confederation. Sir MacDonald helped bring the provinces of Upper and Lower Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick together in 1867 to form Canada while Sir Wilfrid Laurier had the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan created in 1905 which saw the last spit of the Northwest Territories. Sir Macdonald oversaw the establishments of the first transcontinental railway and Sir Wilfred Laurier also oversaw the establishment of tow more transcontinental. Sir MacDonald negotiated the relation ship with the United States and this was also exhibited by sir Wilfrid. The above similarities signify that both of the prime ministers were both devoted and dedicated to the development of Canada. These similarities only signify their similarities in ensuring a proper Canada but these two men had other similarities because they were both the first in whatever they did. MacDonald was the Prime minister of Canada while Sir Wilfrid Laurier was the first francophone prime minister. In the common life Sir MacDonald and sir laurier had a couple of differences . Sir MacDonald came from a family that was not all that well up as compare do to sir Wilfred, he studied law in order to be able to put a meal on his families table since all his fathers ventures were crumbling as compared to Wilfred who studied Law as his passion. Sir Wilfred and Sir MacDonald left a legacy in Canada and are both commemorated in big ways. Both of them have the pleasure of having holidays celebrated in their hournor; they both have avenues named in their respect such as the Laurier Avenue. These two statesmen had very minimal similarities and difference and these was due to their characters but both will live to be legends as far as Canada is concerned. Works Cited Hennessy, Peter. The Importance of Education in Preventing Prejudices Essay Example For Students

The Importance of Education in Preventing Prejudices Essay Ignorance is a huge problem, it is one of the biggest factors responsible for issues such as racism and sexism. Luckily, ignorance, generally speaking, is a relatively easy issue to fix. The obvious answer here would be more education, but this is not necessarily the case. In order to eliminate much of the racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice that arise due to ignorance, it is necessary to look at education from another perspective: one that encourages togetherness and development alongside people of all races and genders. One quote by Grace Boggs book The Next American Revolution summarizes the issue perfectly. We will write a custom essay on The Importance of Education in Preventing Prejudices specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now â€Å"Just imagine what our neighborhoods would be like if, instead of keeping our children isolated in classrooms for twelve years and more, we engaged them in community-building activities with the same audacity with which the civil rights movement engaged them in desegregation activities fifty years ago! .Our children will be absorbing naturally and normally the values of social responsibility and cooperation at the same time that they are being inspired to learn the skills and acquire the information necessary to solve real problems† (Boggs 158). So, the main point here is that prejudice, against all sexes, genders, and creeds, can be eliminated via education that encourages cooperation with the largest variety of people. In order to understand this concept, it is necessary to look at it from a few different perspectives to analyze its viability in modern society. First, it is necessary to examine the current paradigm within education in order to determine exactly what it is about the modern system that requires changing. One of the most immediate concerns comes as a result of the school facilities the. .r through the power of music, will not be forgotten. Racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice are simply not acceptable in modern society, and the sooner they can be eliminated altogether, the sooner the world can truly advance. The Coca Cola Company and Its Myths

The Coca Cola Company and Its Myths Free Online Research Papers Research shows that The Coca Cola Company has become a prominent corporation, with branches in over two hundred countries. An analysis has been conducted to identify the elements that have made this company successful. The findings vary from the approach of its employees to the cultural issues, to the company’s marketing strategies. The myths that have surrounded Coca Cola through the decades will also be explored with the intention of finding the impact they have had in the company’s growth. The Coca-Cola Company and its Myths Introduction Coca Cola products can be found practically anywhere in the world, such as on the tables of people in Tanzania, one of the poorest countries, and on the tables of the wealthiest people in the United States, where the company was founded. The success of this worldwide organization can be attributed to more than just its flavorful beverages. The following elaborates on the company’s mission, product line, organizational structure, and its marketing strategies. A brief overview of some of the myths that have surrounded Coca Cola will also be helpful in finding out how a backyard operation evolved into a multi-million dollar business. Coca-Cola’s Background Coca Cola has been linked to American culture for many years. John Pemberton, who invented the formula in his own back yard, founded Coca Cola in 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia. The first serving of Coca Cola was sold at a pharmacy in Georgia on May 8, 1886. This company has since grown into a multi-million dollar industry, in large part due to their mission and goals. One of the major strengths of Coca Cola is their capability to conduct business on an international scale while sustaining a local approach. To date, this company now produces nearly 400 brands, expanding to over 200 countries worldwide. Coca Cola’s vision involved adapting and evolving to the business conditions of each day. They also embodied employees who upheld strong ideals, commitment, and integrity. The Coca Cola Company believes that there are many experiences in the world and in life to rejoice, enliven, reinforce, and care for (Coca Cola, 2004). One of the missions of the Coca Cola Company is to dev elop a higher quality of life in communities. They are greatly involved in methods and programs, which promote improving individual opportunity through education. Programs that they support and contribute to include: scholarships for aspiring students, encouragement to young people of the importance of staying in schools, and the development of cultural understanding and appreciation (Coca Cola, 2004). Organizational Structure and Targeted Consumers The Coca-Cola Company exists to benefit and refresh everyone it touches. The company is the worlds leading manufacturer, marketer, and distributor of nonalcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups, used to produce nearly four hundred beverage brands. The corporate headquarters are in Atlanta, with local operations in over two hundred countries around the world. (www.2cocla-cola.com) The basic proposition of the business is solid and timeless. When bringing the refreshment, value, joy and fun to the stakeholders, then they successfully nurture and protect the brands, particularly Coca-Cola. That is the key to fulfilling the ultimate obligation to provide consistently attractive returns to the business owners. The company is committed to manage business with a consistent set of values that represent the highest standard of quality, integrity and excellence. Through actions as local citizens, they strive everyday to refresh the market place, enrich the work place, protect the environment, and strengthen the communities (www.2cocla-cola.com). The company’s target is to reach everyone’s home, from young children to the older public. It is the most recognized trademark in the world. The reputation of the Coca-Cola Company is built on trust. They seek to develop relationships with suppliers and share familiar values and conduct business in an ethic al manner (Leith, S. 2002). Marketing and Advertisement Strategies When it comes to marketing, â€Å"The objective of Coca-Cola’s advertisements is to strategically position their product in people’s minds in order to maximize its acceptance. This strategy would in some way or another have a correlation to the changing social values of the period. Trying to keep step with each generation and era has been an important factor in advertising for Coke.† (oppapers.com) The marketing view must penetrate all other views to make a firm successful in the marketplace. Marketing forecasts and plans are multi-factor calculations and predictions, where holistic approaches are needed. Coke uses careful marketing research to discover the trends and desires of target markets, creates products to meet those needs, and then plans ad campaigns to lure in the targeted market segments. It would be ideal if the information gleaned through this process was exclusive, but eventually other soft drink companies pick up on Coke’s trends and try to use it to their advantage as well, at which time Coca-Cola starts the process over. The format in which the information is delivered to decision makers is not as important as the way they then use the information in the effort to win or keep customers. An example of Coca-Cola’s use of marketing is evident in the new advertising campaign, which the company believes, â€Å"reflects genuine, authentic moments in life and the natural role the brand plays in them.† Chris Lowe, North America’s Coca-Cola chief marketing officer explained that, â€Å"consumers today are telling us they want brands that are genuine, authentic and real and these are values they associate more strongly with Coca-Cola than any other brand. Authenticity, originality and ‘real’ refreshment are part of our heritage, and what the brand has always stood for.† (Coca-Cola Website) â€Å"Coca-Cola’s goal is to make their costumers think of their product and this commercial whenever they are reminded of a sentimental and enjoyable event† (www.louisville.edu/~rljohn10/pepsi.html). Cocaine Myth It will be inevitable for The Coca Cola Company to reach a global market without having myths associated with its name. The most widely known myth about Coca Cola is that it contained extract of coca leaves. In fact in 1886, when it was introduced in the market, it did. Exactly how much cocaine was in the formula itself has not been determined, but Coca-Cola did contain some cocaine when it was first developed. What researches do know is that in 1902, 1/400 of a grain of cocaine per ounce of syrup was in the drink. Apparently in 1929, Coca-Cola became cocaine free. â€Å"By Heaths calculation, the amount of ecgonine [an alkaloid in the coca leaf that could be synthesized to create cocaine] was infinitesimal: no more than one part in 50 million. In an entire years supply of 25-odd million gallons of Coca-Cola syrup, Heath figured, there might be six-hundredths of an ounce of cocaine. So, yes, at one time there was cocaine in Coca-Cola.† (Mikkelson, B. snopes.com/cokelore/c ocaine.asp) Ethylene Glycol Myth Another myth basically states that Cola-Cola used ethylene glycol in their soft drinks. People have apparently confused ethylene glycol with polyethylene. Ethylene glycol is a compound that is used to make antifreeze and de-icing solutions for cars, airplanes, and boats; to make polyester compounds; and as solvents in the paint and plastics industries. Polyethylene glycol is non-toxic and is used in a variety of products. In fact, it is the basis of a number of laxatives (e.g. macrogol-containing products such as Movicol ®). As far as Coca-Cola is concerned, polyethylene glycol is not an added ingredient in soft drinks. However, polyethylene glycol is safe and suitable for use in foods and beverages, according to the U.S. FDA and other Regulatory authorities. (Coca-Cola Website. The poster was released in the mid 80s and provoked a total argument because of the picture painted in ice-cubes, a woman performing a bad action. The graphic artist who designed the picture put this as a joke and it went unnoticed. This artist lost his job and was sued for a lot of money. All the posters and advertisement was destroyed and new ones and to be made. The poster shows a cartoon version of a coke bottle sitting on a bed of ice under the words â€Å"Feel the Curves†. The president of the Australian Marketing Rep, Coca-Cola South Pacific, Mr. Mike Bascle said the action of the artist was â€Å"quite irresponsible and not amusing†. The company had lost millions of dollars in revenue as a result of this careless pornographic advertisement, but later recreated new glossy posters (â€Å"The Adelaide Advertiser† ) snopes.com/cokelore/poster.aspp) Santa Claus Myth The likeness of Santa Claus has, for many years, been attributed to the image that Coca Cola embodies during their holiday advertisements. Myths have implied that Coca Cola created the representation of Santa Claus being in a red and white suit as a marketing ploy to promote sales. In actuality, the real history of Santa Claus predates Coca Cola’s introduction of him during the 1930’s. The earliest records of Santa Claus reflect that he was actually an evolutionary invention resulting from two religious people, St. Nichols and Christkindlein (Snopes, 2001). St. Nichols was a patron saint known for bearing gifts. Adults who clothed themselves in furry attire and visited children while they were awake to put on a scary performance represented Christkindlein. Once the children awoke, they found gifts and believed Christkindlein left them; hence the story behind Santa Claus involving his attire and gift giving beliefs. Coca Cola however, capitalized on the belief of Santa Claus. In 1930, the Coca Cola Company was looking for a way to encourage sales during the winter months, which was normally a slow sales period for the soft drink market. Haddon Sundblom, a cartoonist, was contacted to create a marketable image on behalf of the company (Snopes, 2001). After much deliberation, he invented a vision of Santa Claus wearing a red and white suit, drinking and enjoying coca cola. The success of this invention was enormous and his ingenious creation was just the marketing ploy Coca Cola needed to catapult their sales during this slow season. Conclusion The Coca Cola Company has come a long way from selling a few servings of carbonated beverages in a pharmacy, to an international scale business. The company has accomplished that objective thanks to dedicated people who have collaborated through the years with the mission to attain high quality standards. Their product line has grown with the approach of cultural appreciation and understanding, which has been a key factor in the introduction of the products in over 200 countries. Coca Cola’s commitment to remain at the forefront of the changing social values in developing their marketing strategy has proven to their advantage. The negative myths that have targeted Coca Cola might have had a harmful impact on the sales at the time of their circulation. On the other hand, the creative idea of dressing Santa Claus in the company’s red and white colors proves that some myths can be very beneficial to a corporation. Undoubtedly The Coca Cola Company has developed all th e elements necessary to run a multi-million, worldwide enterprise and refreshes all the people that come in contact with their products.
